Madge D. OwensMadge D. Owens was named a "Phenomenal Trailblazer" by the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative/Women. The prestigious "Trailblazer Award" is the highest award given to a woman by NOBEL/Women. She is one of the first recipients of the historic NAACP Atlanta Branch “Valuable Volunteer Award.”

Madge weaves intricate tales of mystery and suspense, and seeks to use her writing as a vehicle to entertain, educate, and celebrate the positive aspects of inner-city life.

Her second novel, The Final Curve, was published in January 2006, and sold out during an appearance at the East Point Black History Weekend Literary Café. She was also featured presenter during the National Women’s History Month Celebration, sponsored by The Atlanta Urban League Guild and participated in “The Literary Café” an annual event sponsored by the Marietta-Roswell Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Barnes & Noble, highlighting popular metro Atlanta authors. Her numerous appearances at Onyx Book Club include being featured in a book club documentary taping.

Her first book, To Silence Her Memory, published in April 2003, has been featured at numerous book clubs andwas reviewed by L. Raven James of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers, who described it as “a unique story line” and “a joy to read.”  She has participated as a featured author in the Atlanta Book Festival Literary Soul Café.   

Award-winning Atlanta journalist Hal Lamar, of The Atlanta Voice Newspaper, described To Silence Her Memory as a "nail biting who-dun-it based in Atlanta.”  Silence has also been featured by Art Searles, editor and publisher of the Southwest Georgian Newspaper in Albany, who called it “A real page turner and plot twister.”

Madge has been a featured author during several National Black Arts Festival events with Medu Bookstore and Densua’s African Treasures Fine Arts Gallery, and has signed her books during annual conferences of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials and the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. Most recently, she was one of two featured authors during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of The Literary Consortium (TLC) Atlanta Book Club.

Madge is currently working on her third novel, a sequel to, To Silence Her Memory, which will reintroduce her readers to characters from Silence and The Final Curve.  She is also the author of several unpublished short stories, and a collection of poetry.
